EA’s NCAA case leads to landmark decision on player likenesses

EA has been embroiled — along with the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and the Collegiate Licensing Corporation which controls its licensing rights — in lawsuits brought by former student athletes who appeared in its popular college sports games. Now, federal judge Claudia Wilken has ruled that the athletic organization is violating antitrust law by not allowing student athletes to be paid for the use of their likenesses and identities. This is a huge decision for college athletics, though for its part, EA has already settled this case, which was originally filed in 2009. It's a complicated case; Judge Wilken's decision weighs in at 99 pages [PDF]. For its part, the NCAA is n…

The Acolyte Was Inspired By This Iconic Star Wars Game

There’s still a lot we don’t know about The Acolyte, the upcoming Star Wars live-action series on Disney+ that takes place roughly 100 years before the prequel trilogy. While most of the main characters of the show have been revealed, the trailers have only offered a few fleeting glimpses of an assassin whose face is hidden by a mask. Now, series creator Leslye Headland is shedding some light on the inspiration behind that character, and it came from a classic Star Wars video game.

Via Den of Geek, Headland confirmed that the character that caught her eye was Darth Traya, the primary villain of 2004’s Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords.

“Darth Traya really stuck out to me as an inspiration,” noted Headland, who also revealed that she was tempted to introduce anot…

Ortega flew from Los Angeles to North Carolina to exact his revenge in a way that might have Emi thinking differently about who he talks trash to online, as the former champion planted him in a rear naked choke and put him to sleep momentarily.
