Gustavo open to Bayern exit

Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo has refused to dismiss speculation linking him with a move away from the Allianz Arena.

Bayern have added Thiago Alcantara and Mario Goetze to their midfield ranks during the close-season.

Gustavo has been a regular in the Bundesliga champions team since moving from Hoffenheim in 2011, but is now facing increased competition for places under new manager Pep Guardiola.

The Brazil international has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg, and the 26-year-old has not ruled out leaving Bavaria before the end of the transfer window.

Up to August 31 everything is possible, he said.

Gustavo scored four goals in 36 appearances for Bayern last term.

Prediction: Ireland vs United States

Prediction: Draw

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

While Ireland and the United States both would ve been expecting to qualify for the World Cup this year, unfortunately, fate had different plans. Both sets of fans will go into this game knowing that they won t get to experience playing in the tournament this time around, and that s a shame. Still, there are 90 minutes of football to be played, and neither team has anything to lose.

Ireland

The Irish are probably still reeling from the last six months following their failure to qualify for the World Cup. It seemed like they had all the momentum in the world following their victory over Wales, but unfortunately, they came up against a much better side in the form of Denmark in their playoff encounter. Despite this…

Kaka calls for real calm

Recent Champions League winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka have sought to temper the growing anticipation that this is going to be Real Madrid s year in Europe as their side prepare to host Marseille.

Madrid have failed to get beyond the first knockout stage of the Champions League in any of the last five seasons, but few believe it will be a similar story this time around following a record-breaking summer spending spree and a flying start to the new campaign.

Buoyed by the arrival of superstars such as Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Xabi Alonso, Madrid have won all six of their competitive games so far, scoring 21 goals and conceding just four in the process.

That has increased expectations that Madrid can seriously challenge last season s treble winners Bar…

Clichy brushes move talk aside

Gael Clichy is keen to remain focused on matters at Arsenal in the wake of fresh speculation regarding his future.

The French full-back is reported to be a potential target for Primera Liga giants Real Madrid, who are keen to bolster their defensive options.

It is suggested that Santiago Bernabeu officials have already made contact with Clichy s representatives about a possible switch to Spain next summer.

The 24-year-old only penned a four-year contract with Arsenal in 2008 and remains a regular part of Arsene Wenger s plans.

However, Real could be willing to test the Gunners resolve with an approach at the end of the current campaign.

Clichy has been quick to distance himself from such speculation, claiming he is only concerned with Arsenal for…

Guinea call for Constant

Kevin Constant has been included in Guinea s Africa Cup of Nations squad, despite his recent absence from international football.

Trabzonspor s Constant quit the national side in October, citing difficult relations with his team-mates.

However, the former Milan player soon made himself available again and has been named in Michel Dussuyer s 23-man party for the contintental tournament, which begins in Equatorial Guinea next month.

Dussuyer s squad features only eight players who represented Guinea in their last AFCON appearance in 2012.

Ismael Bangoura has been omitted after stating his desire to focus on club football with Nantes earlier this month.

Guinea have been drawn alongside Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Mali in Group D.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has confirmed that Liverpool have long been scouting highly-rated midfielder Christian Eriksen.

BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal sign goalkeeper Leno from Leverkusen

Arsenal have signed Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, becoming the second arrival since Unai Emery took over as manager.

The 26-year-old, capped six times by his country, joins the Gunners for a reported £19.2million fee and ends a seven-year spell with Leverkusen.

Leno is expected to compete with first-team goalkeepers Petr Cech and David Ospina at Arsenal after the pair endured tough 2017-18 campaigns.

While Leno was part of the Germany squad that won the Confederations Cup in 2017, he failed to earn a place in Joachim Low s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia, as Manuel Neuer recovered from injury in time to earn a call-up.

The goalkeeper will instead soon link up with Arsenal for pre-season, with Emery delighted with his ca…

Xavi: Ronaldo doesn´t deserve Ballon d´Or

Cristiano Ronaldo did not deserve to win the Ballon d Or despite his trophy success in 2016, according to Barcelona legend Xavi.

The Real Madrid forward won the prize for the fourth time on Monday after he received more than double the voting points of Barca superstar Lionel Messi, who came second.

Ronaldo described last season as the best of his career after he won the Champions League with Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal, having become the Spanish club s all-time top goalscorer in October 2015.

Xavi, however, feels it was wrong to award the prize to a player based on the titles he has won, rather than his individual quality.

They counted the major trophies but there are other years in which they didn t use that to award the best player in the wor…
